Behold the BMW S70/2, 627 naturally aspirated horses to power the McLaren F1. What other awesome car used an outsourced engine? We’re talking OEM cars, not swaps.
I'm going to come back with a top ten list Tavarish style. If you would please leave the car name and the engine in your answer.

Lotus Exige.
Outsourced Toyota engine that was kind of outsourced from Yamaha.
That 1.8 2zz made up to 260 hp.

Ford wanted to bring over the Sierra but couldn’t get an engine to pass emissions in the U.S. so they pretty much pulled the 2.3 Turbo out of their ass, slopped it in the car, and sold it. Maybe not quite someone else’s engine, but an example of a car maker using a different engine than they may have initially intended to just to get the car on dealer lots.

Don’t know if its the best, but Facel Vega has to be one of the best.

Which model would you nominate?

Personally, I prefer this one. But yeah, Pagani is the answer.

The Zonda is nice, but there is something about the Huarya I prefer.

Should I only submit one, or be kind-of a dick and beat everyone else to it and submit a bunch?
Ehh, I’m in a douchey mood today, but I’ll try and make up for it with some pretty pics.
Citroën SM (Maserati V6)
AC / Shelby Cobra (Ford 260, 289, & 427 c.i. V8)
Iso Grifo (Chevrolet 327, 427, & 454 c.i. V8, Ford 351 c.i. V8)
DeLorean DMC-12 (Peugeot-Renault-Volvo V6)
DeTomaso Pantera (Ford 302 & 351 c.i. V8)
Lancia Stratos (Ferrari Dino V6)
Jensen Interceptor (Chrysler 383, 360 , & 440 c.i. V8)
and, last, but not least
Lancia Thema 8.32 (Ferrari V8)

Morgan Aeromax, uses the 4.4L BMW N62 V8.

Yeah...pretty sure it took Lotus a lot of work to make an NA 8,500 rpm screamer handle a supercharger. If you just stick a supercharger on your Vibe 2ZZ, it would disintegrate. But maybe you can try and see how it goes!?

It has 200,000 km on it. I suspect doing anything to it now wouldn't end well. That, and Mrs. BaconSandwich would probably not approve, given how long it takes for me to get things done.

Whelp, you mentioned BMW engines so morgan is the first thing to come to mind
oppo wont let me post pics right now :(

Not sure the Lancias are eligible. Ferrari was half owned by Fiat Group at the time. Will need the wisdom of Soloman to determine.

I’ll see myself out now.
But for those who don’t know, the 2004-2007 V6 Saturn Vue was moved about by a Honda 3.5L V6 known as the J35A3, or the GM L66 if you’re super ‘Murican.
![]() 01/24/2016 at 01:32 |

If that makes them ineligible, the SM should also be disqualified as Citroën owned Maserati at the time.

CCX Used the Ford 4.6L DOHC Block

Who made the engines for them? I assumed it would be a Ford V8 or something.
